Target's C9 version of Swiftly Tech LS & Budget Running Tights

Scoped out the athletic section of Target last week, and I was drawn to this long sleeve top that looks a lot like a certain top from Lululemon.  Well, maybe just a little bit.

It's the C9 by Champion Women's long sleeve seamless tee in pink, for $24.99.  It also comes in black and white.  It's 94% Nylon, 6% Spandex.  What really made it remind me of the Lululemon top is the subtle curved design on the chest and back.

I tried it on.  With the skirt I wore to work.  I should have picked up a pair of running shorts to try on with it instead of a thick wool tweed skirt.  But the XS fit snugly.  If I were buying it, I probably would have picked it up in this size though, to wear as a base layer.  It has regular shoulder seams even though the pattern makes it look raglan.  Sizing up would have put the shoulder seams beyond my actual shoulders.

The fabric of this top was much more structured than the fabric of the Lululemon Swiftly Tech LS, in my opinion.  Both are "seamless" (though there are shoulder seams on the C9 version...?  and there are raglan seams on the Swiftly Tech?  Not sure what allows them to call it seamless), wicking, and lightweight.  Unlike the Lulu top, there are no thumbholes on the C9 top.

Here's my Lululemon Swiftly Tech LS in dark classic grey on myself:

And one in blue from the Lululemon website:

If you are looking for a pair of inexpensive running tights, also be sure to check these out:

This is the C9 by Champion Women's Fitted Running Tight.  Above is the Ebony and Wild Rose color combo.  They are also available in solid black (ebony).  These are $24.99 and made of Chamipon's Duo Dry moisture-wicking fabric.  They are 88% Polyester, 12% Spandex.

These looked decent in the store!

They have a zipper at the ankle so you can fit them over your calves (if you are like me and might have that issue).  Other features include a nice-looking reflective pattern that wrapped around the right leg and a wide waistband.  There was a key pocket on the outside of the waistband at the back; not zippered (good if you plan on doing some kind of mat work or crunches after your run and don't want it digging in to your back; not sure how secure it is though).

Do you have any experience with Target's C9 by Champion Line?
Any other stores you like for budget-friendly workout clothes?

  1. That top looked so much different on you than on the model, it was really cute on you. I have a couple of things from target, but I never really love running in them, most have ended up in the garage sale box :(

I buy a lot of Lucy tops. They are expensive at regular price, but tent to have really big sales with additional markdowns. I don't like their bottoms though... they always ride down during a run! They used to make a sterling sports bra that it my all time favorite... I think they discontinued it.

All in all I don't mind splurging on spendy workout clothes if they do their job. It's an important part of my life, and I want to be comfortable while working out.

  4. Nicole- Thanks! I had some cheap sports bras from Target when I first started running (very short distances) and for i.e. elliptical at the gym. Then I realized there were WAY more supportive bras out there as I started running longer distances. I have 2 short sleeve wicking shirts from there that I really like.

I have 1 lucy tank and 1 pair of crops. The crops were ok for spinning, haven't run in them though. I did feel that the drawstring was kind of cheap for the pants though. I agree that I'm ok spending more for functional, comfortable, cute running things. Husband doesn't object...when it's in moderation :)

Katie- Thanks for stopping by! I <3 NeverHomeMaker! It's a great blog. These tights looked worth checking out!

Kathleen- Thanks for commenting! I don't have anything by danskin. I have heard good things about Patagonia baselayers too...and have thought about getting one for running/skiing. I'll have to keep an eye out for a sale!
