Yesterday, hubby and I went on a 9.2 mile bike ride on a mix of trails and roads; Today I went for an 11 mile run!
I wore what I think I will wear for the half marathon(now only 2 weeks away!):
- Lululemon I Just Wanna Run tank in Wish Blue;
- My Lululemon Fast Shorts in black;
- Moving Comfort Juno sports bra,
- new Saucony ProGrid Omni 9 and Feetures light socks (mentioned previously here).
No blisters from my new socks/shoes, and no discomfort from my clothing - hooray!
I brought along a ~16 ounce bottle of water that I filled 2/3 of the way and froze overnight. My ice lasted for just over an hour. I tried out some of my new Mountain Berry Clif Shot Bloks (not bad at all!) at about 15-20 min before running; 1.5 miles, 3 miles, 5, miles, 7 miles, and an Espresso Love Gu from a friend at mile 8.6.
This was my first gu experience. As a coffee fiend, I loved the taste, but it was a little awkward to eat all of it. I squeezed a little bit out at a time, following up with a sip of water after each squeeze. That worked ok for me. It sat well in my stomach for the remainder of my run too (I've heard of some people having issues, so I was nervous!)
At my half marathon there will be water stops at miles: 1.4, 3.2, 5, 6.2, 7.4, 8.6 (+ gu), 10.5 and 11.65.
My run was on the nearby canal towpath again. The only wildlife encounter I had was a baby deer at about 1.2 miles in. I heard a rustling in the weeds and got a little nervous until the head of a baby deer popped out. It was clearly frightened by me and ran back into the brush. Somewhere around mile 9 I came across a dead snake (ew). Luckily, no aggressive raccoons like a couple weeks ago!
Is anyone reading this signed up for upcoming events? (Run, bike, tri, something else?)
Hope everyone's doing something fun this Labor Day weekend!
I'm one of those people who can't eat gu because it upsets my stomach, terribly, like the worst stomach ache ever. I just bought some of the shot blocks and they seem a bit more promising just looking at the ingredients; they seem like they're be a bit more gentle on the stomach.
ReplyDeleteThat's no fun... I consider myself very lucky to have not had any issues mid-run (yet). So far I've tried 5 flavors and they sit well, so it's just an issue of taste preference for me.
ReplyDeleteThe only downside I see so far is they don't fit as well in short/tank pockets, so I end up sticking the package in my shorts-waist band.
