January Recap

I didn't totally slack off during the month of January.

I decided to give yoga a try and have been going once weekly since the New Year.

January 2-8: 75 min yoga, 18.2 miles of running, a surprising 7.38 mile outdoor bike ride, 50 min arms + core
January 9-15: 75 min yoga, 17.66 miles of running
January 16-22: 75 min yoga, 7.48 miles of running, 6 mile hike
January 23-29: 75 min yoga, 16.04 miles of running
January 30-31: 1 hour boot camp

January Total: 59.38 miles run, 7.38 miles biked, 6 miles hiked, 4 yoga classes.

January 31 also marked my last day of work.  I have all kinds of mixed feelings about that, but it is giving me a week to chill out and wrap up stuff here in NJ before the movers come next week to cart our stuff off to CA.

Many runs have been from the Run Less Run Faster plan, even if they have been spread out over a longer period of time.  I'm still able to hit my target paces based on my November half marathon time though, so I don't think I have lost any fitness.

Somewhere around February 15th I should be able to get back to following a training plan more closely.  Which is good, since I've got a half marathon on March 24th.  I'm not expecting to PR given the course's elevation map.  Luckily (or not) our future home is located at the top of a hill with a several hundred foot elevation change over the course of less than a mile.  So I'll have some forced practice on hills close to home.

What races are you signed up for in 2012?

  1. Hope your moves goes as smoothly as possible.

I'm trying to keep my calendar as open as possible this year. I've got a marathon in a couple of weeks and the LA Marathon in March.

  2. Good luck with the move! Are you looking to rejoin the workforce at some point in California?

I am running a 1/2 marathon in my hometown of Gainesville, Fl on 2/20 and the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in DC on 4/1. I don't race in the summer (bleecchh!) and I'm getting married in September so now sure how the rest of the year will turn out. We'll see....

    1. Thank you! I am hoping to find a job once we're in CA. Working in the schools though, I know it might be tough to find something right away given CA's budget situation. A leave replacement this spring would be nice, otherwise I hope to find something for the next school year.

I don't blame you for not racing in the summer! Weather should be great for your February and April races though :) I wish I was running when we were planning our wedding, it would have been a nice outlet for wedding stress!

    1. I can't believe I am either... The gradual stopping of work, packing, moving, is helping it sink in but somehow it doesn't feel entirely real yet!

    1. Thank you. All those races sound like they would be so pretty!! What's the elevation like for the Blue Ridge one?

  5. Having a big hill leading up to your house is a great excuse for a cool down walk. Not that I would do that. Nope, not me. :)

    1. I usually run until I'm about :30 or a minute from home. not much of a cool down. But currently I also get to end my runs on a downhill. I'll let you know how that goes next week...gulp.
