Apparently it is more difficult to train greyhounds to sit than other dog breeds (Google greyhound + sitting and you'll see plenty of results). Something about their body structure, it's not natural, blah blah blah. When we got Molly at nearly-4 years old and were told greyhounds could be trained to sit but that it was difficult, I think my husband took that as a challenge.
With some physical assistance at first and plenty of treats, she was sitting in no time. And ever since she learned to sit, she sits all the time. It just looks a little goofy because her butt hovers an inch off the floor.
Anyway, I have not heard of this comparison before, but after looking up kangaroo pictures, I can see the resemblance. You decide:
She's totally a kangaroo descendant. If Bungee sat like that, I think I'd always be laughing at her. Not that I don't laugh at her constantly anyway.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! She totally does look like a kangaroo! She just doesn't want to set her bum down on the cold floor. :)
ReplyDeleteMy pooch Rugby was in a training class with a grey. Instead of sitting the grey was allowed to lie down. I think part of it is because they have such huge hamstring musculature.
ReplyDeletehysterical! Molly Waffles is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI am with the rest of them. Molly really does look like a Kangaroo. SO CUTE
ReplyDeleteI click on your blog expecting to see gorgeous pics of CA and see nothing but dogs and kangaroos.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud both times I read your comment. I will prepare a post with pictures of CA for you for tomorrow morning :)
DeleteThat is hilarious! I love the photo montage. :)
ReplyDeleteHuh, I wonder if Italian Greyhounds have the same problem! Our pup will sit on command, but he'll stand up again after two seconds. When he sits by his own will, he always has his butt elevated, like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/snutur/6960421927/in/photostream
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it applies to Iggies, but it sounds like it! I love the picture of your dog sitting, that's too funny :)
DeleteOmg! I found your blog because my son and I were laughing about our dog, Delilah (a chihuahua or the original sort-before they were bred down) who looks like a kangaroo. SO I looked up kangaroo in google images, found this kangaroo and found this blog about YOUR dog that looks like a kangaroo! LOL Ours looks like a kangaroo with a Luck Dragon (Neverending Story lol) head. We call her meerkat, kangaroo, cat (she meows and perches on things lol), and now that she's gained weight, piggles! But to her face she's ALWAYS the princess! haha! I'm going to have to put some pictures up on a site so you can see what I mean! It's hilarious! Your "kangadog" is adorable! Greyhounds are one of my favorite breeds!!!
ReplyDeleteThe dog is really amazing and thumbs up for your observation.
